Reverend Chumleigh and Thaddeus Spae:
Biographical Notes

For those perishing few unfamiliar with the annals of these two unreconstructed renegades, a brief curriculum vitae may be in order:

Chumleigh: The Legend
Chumleigh was abandoned on the high seas at an early age and never met His mother till years after His birth. Trained in the Equatorial Himalayas by Ancient Indian Fakirs, at the door of the Secret Tomb the true Nature of nature was revealed to Him. Since then, He has spent most of His time traveling on the Astral Plane to avoid creditors.

As Founder of the Miraculous Church of the Incandescent Resurrection (also know as the First Church of the Almighty Whatever), He is the Spiritual Leader of the Morally Indigent and perhaps the REAL father of your children.

Currently, He awaits the coming of the Zombie-Juggler Apocalypse with His huge collection of automatic weapons in His Fortress of Solitude miles beneath His ten acre Mystic Ashram and Discount Car Wash on Camano Island (one of the MAJOR POWER SPOTS ON THE PLANET) where He spends His time watching 16mm Films and, with His wife, fathering a huge race of Blind Cave Chumleighs who will someday emerge into the light and, as Chumleigh puts it, "Set thangs raht."

"Chumleigh rivals Spaulding Gray as a story teller, punctuated by unbelievably silly stunts." Jerry Mousawad, Imago Theater

"By the end of the night he manages to skewer all religions, most politicians and everyone from the far right to the far out." Mary Snell, Maine Telegram

"If you can appreciate the sort of classic American sideshow that your grandparents might've enjoyed on a vaudeville stage, then a visit to the Church of Reverend Chumleigh is in order." Shawn Levy,The Oregonian

"I enjoyed your show very much." William Burroughs

Thaddeus Spae
A conscript in the first wave of New Vaudeville, Thaddeus found fame (or at least notoriety) in the '70's as reluctant bandleader and main composer for the notorious Oregon Country Fair Circus in Veneta, Oregon. He has appeared with such luminaries as Baby Gramps, the Flying Karamazov Brothers and Artis The Spoonman, and for 30 years he toured with his late wife Sandahbeth as the acoustic duo Amber Tide.

Thaddeus sings and plays his innumerable trenchent ditties on guitar, harmonica, trombone, guitarron, banjolin and whatever else he can fit on the stage. His compositions have been heard on NPR, Showtime cable television and Broadway, choreographed by the Paul Taylor Dance Troupe and recorded for broadcast by the BBC. He has performed at venues from Tipitina's in New Orleans to the EMP in Seattle and at fairs, universities, festivals, churches and on street corners nationwide.

A devotee of old jazz, punk rock, wild stories, peculiar instruments and satiric lyricists from Tom Lehrer to Tom Waits, Thaddeus wields a finely sharpened needle to weave his broadly comic musical entertainment.

"Eclectic jazz-tinged sounds and painfully bad jokes." seattle.alltechn.com

"Unique talent — gutsy singing, witty and soulful arrangements." Serni Solidarios, University of Puget Sound

"Damn, that's a lot of instruments. That's beyond eclectic. That's scary." The Stranger

"Something different." ABC Weekend News
